Copernicus Center

Description

Located in Jefferson Park, Chicago, the Copernicus Center is a historic building that formerly served as the Gateway Theater. Designed by Mason Rapp of Rapp & Rapp, it is the architect's only surviving atmospheric theater in Chicago. The theater seats 1,890 and is used for a variety of events, including musical concerts, plays, athletic competitions, seminars, and choral competitions.

The Copernicus Center serves as a cultural and community center for a variety of ethnic groups, including the Polish, East Indian, Spanish, Korean, Filipino, and American communities. The theater is used an average of 48 weeks a year, with peak activity on weekends.
