Description
Meridian Hall, located in Toronto, Ontario, is Canada's largest all-seat theatre dedicated to the performing arts. Opened on October 1, 1960, it is a major cultural asset managed by the independent agency TO Live.
Designed by Peter Dickinson, the building is an outstanding example of mid-twentieth-century architecture. It consists of three main forms: the entrance block, the auditorium and the flying tower. The theatre's interior retains original materials such as Alabama limestone, Carrara marble and Brazilian rosewood. Of particular note is the mural "The Seven Living Arts" by York Wilson, which adorns the lobby.
Following a restoration completed on October 1, 2010, Meridian Hall continues to delight audiences with its superb acoustics and comfortable viewing environment. The theatre was designated a City of Toronto Heritage Building in 2008, recognizing its historical and cultural significance.
