Centro Asturiano de Tampa

Description

Centro Asturiano de Tampa is a significant historic place located in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida. Designed by architect M. Leo Elliott and opened in 1914, the building served as a social club for immigrants from Asturias, Spain. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since July 24, 1974.

The first floor of the building housed a gymnasium, a cantina for card games, chess and dominoes, a billiard room, and a bowling alley. These spaces are currently used for storage or other purposes. The second floor contains the club's administrative offices, a library, reading and study rooms, a smoking room, a ladies' lounge, and an auditorium with a stage. The third floor is the theater's balcony and grand ballroom, where public dances, private parties, weddings, anniversaries and other celebrations are still held.
